Panasonic

is a consumer electronics company producing a wide variety of things, including a number of micro 4/3rd cameras a nd High Definition Camcorders. Panasonic started in 1918 creating lamps. Not until 2008 was Panasonic known as that name globally, in Japan it was still known under the name “National.” The name Panasonic comes from speakers made for export with the label, “PanaSonic,” printed on them.

In terms of the videographer, the film student, and the independent filmmaker, Panasonic has been and leading the way with their line of cameras and camcorders. Since 2005 the Panasonic HVX200 and HVX200a is one of the most highly sought after camcorders for working professionals. With the advent of the DSLR revolution, Panasonic felt it need cameras to compete with Canon. They produced the prosumer GH1 and GH2 and the cinema-style workhorse, the Panasonic AF100. The AF100 revolutionized film making with the high dynamic range of it’s micro 4/3rd sensor, interchangeable lens ability, and unlike cameras like the Canon 7D and 5D Mark ii, the AF100 has built in ND filters and professional on board XLR audio inputs. In 2011 Panasonic updated the HVX line up by introducing the HPX250. This camera has amazing low light capabilities, a 22x optical servo zoom lens, and shoots in an edit friendly, 10-bit 4:2:2 codec, AVC-Intra 100.
